Thrive Zone Amager builds onto a previous collaboration between Copenhagen Solutions Lab, the City of Copenhagen and Google, wherein all streets of Copenhagen were measured for air pollution – the so-called Google Air-View project. The Thrive Zone Amager project team has combined data collected by local citizens carrying sensors with Google’s AirView air measurements to provide as accurate a picture as possible of how to effectively minimize the level Copenhageners exposure to air pollution.
Local citizens from Amager were installed with sensors to measure the air quality in their local environment. While sensor data are difficult to compare one-to-one without calibration, the citizen measurements underscore the insight of local differences in pollution levels. On top, people’s experience of measuring with sensors did also serve the purpose of expanding their comprehension of the nature of air quality and air pollution.
